Dear BIS Community,
Re. Management decision to terminate negotiations with Ver.di
The Tarifkommission were surprised to hear in the all-staff meeting of 1 October 2014 of the decision of the Directorate and the Board to terminate negotiations with Ver.di regarding a Tarifvertrag. We are particularly disappointed to read today that ‘...any future negotiations with Verdi would be futile...’ given that the Tarifkommission have been attempting to meet to negotiate the 5th Management Proposal this week following the Ver.di members meeting of 29 September 2014. The Tarifkommission regret this course of action by the Management given that we believe that a mutually agreeable solution to the dispute was, and is still, not far away.
We would like to clarify that the Tarifkommission and the Union are not distinctly different entities. Throughout this whole process the Tarifkommission have sought to represent the views of our colleagues; our membership democratically elected the Tarifkommission to negotiate with the Directorate. A trade union does not exist without the will and support of a collective membership.
We wish to take the time to publicly declare that the Tarifkommission do wish to continue negotiating with the BIS Directorate. We believe that thoughtful discussion is a vital component of civil society and that trade unions in Germany are valued because of their important role in the democratic process.
To conclude, we reiterate our hope that the Directorate will return to the negotiating table and help construct a legally binding, fair, equitable and progressive agreement for all-staff regardless of their adoption of union membership.
Kindly,
Ver.di-Tarifkommission
